The Slaney Purple Paddlers is a dragon boat team based in the Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis club.
The team members have one thing in common, they have been diagnosed with breast cancer. All survivors are welcome regardless of age. We have set up a dragon boat team to:
The group was established in 2017, so we are all new to the sport and no previous experience is required. We are inspired by the 150 or so breast cancer dragon boat teams worldwide.
Dragon Boating is an international venture proven fitness levels and rehabilitation after breast cancer surgery.
Evidence has shown that exercise after breast cancer is not only safe, but beneficial. Exercise can improve mental health boost energy levels, promote better sleep and enhance well-being. The specific movement of paddling a dragon boat can play an important role in preventing and/or improving lympho-edema, a condition that can occur due to breast surgery and/or radiation.
Being a member of the Slaney Purple Paddlers at Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club, means that you can connect with other breast cancer survivors whilst engaging in a fun physical activity.
Come along a try it out, or you are always welcome to join us in the boat club after training for a chat.

This is normally on a Tuesday evening at 7PM.
